Personal Profile

Do you wake up with a sense of anxiousness, heaviness or dread? Do these feelings follow you into your day and are still present before bed? Maybe you replay old conversations, wondering if you said too much or telling yourself you are the problem? You may give yourself labels such as oversensitive, a failure, unlikeable or too much. You are not too much, and never were.

Whether you come on your own, as a couple, or as a two (any two people in relationship, such as family, friends or colleagues), you are one of a kind. Your story, your patterns and the way you love are yours alone, and that is where we start, with you.

Reasons to choose me include relationship or family issues, grief and loss, alcohol misuse, trauma, loneliness, resentment, over responsibility, appeasing behaviour, or if you struggle to feel good enough.

What is absolutely true is that you were born as authentically you. We are in relationship with others from the moment we are born, and in certain environments and in life experiences, we use every single coping strategy that we have to survive. Yet these learnt patterns may now be causing you a level of distress which is why you find yourself here.

These patterns can look like control, perfectionism, people pleasing, keeping the peace, going quiet, or reaching for a drink. You may fear being rejected, left or disliked and mask this fear. You may feel empty, alone or not good enough, as if you do not have the tool box for life (you do, it has just been unused or is a bit rusty!).

I will sit with you and listen to your words, truly listen. I will validate your feelings and thoughts as being that: yours. I will explore your learnt patterns and understand your way of being in the world. Together we will create new ways of relating, promoting your freedom and choice. We will work together on you waking up feeling lighter. I believe what is learnt can be unlearnt, if you want to, and that we heal in relationship.

I am (for the majority!) unshockable. Feedback says I am real, honest, friendly and help clients feel at ease. I work online and by telephone across the UK, so location is not an issue. I am recognised by Bupa, AXA, Aviva, WPA, Vitality and Allianz. With 10,000+ therapy hours behind me, you are in safe, experienced hands.

Experience

Specialisms include:

Relationships. Working with individuals, couples and twos we look at how you are relating, whether this is just you, a marriage or any two people in relationship, such as family, friends or colleagues.

Loss and bereavement. Loss can be a death, a relationship, a home, a job or a life you hoped for. As a therapist, and fellow human, I will sit with you in the way that you need in the moment.

Childhood experiences. What you learnt when you were young can still shape how you love, trust and use your voice today. I work with attachment and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

Alcohol as a coping skill. Reaching for a drink can be a way of coping with what is hard to feel. I work with alcohol misuse by looking at what the drink is doing for you, and what you might need instead.

Over responsibility and losing your voice. Feelings of not fitting in, appeasing to belong, being over responsible for others, losing your voice, and carrying a sense of wrongness into your work and friendships are symptoms I work with regularly. This may appear as forward planning, predicting how someone else will react and changing what you say due to a worry of being disliked. These are often responses to what you have learnt.
