Counsellor, Psychotherapist
Introduction
There are times in life when we can feel overwhelmed, uncertain or disconnected from ourselves. You may be struggling with confidence or self-esteem, navigating a difficult transition, experiencing pressure around education or work, or carrying experiences from the past that continue to affect how you feel about yourself and the world around you.
Perhaps you are questioning who you are, struggling with self-doubt, coping with a loss, or finding it difficult to put your feelings into words. Whatever brings you to counselling, I offer a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can feel listened to, understood and accepted.
I am a Level 4 qualified counsellor and BACP Accredited Counsellor, with over 28 years of experience as a teacher and more than 20 years as a mentor. Throughout my career, I have supported teenagers, young adults and university students through some of the most stressful and significant periods of their lives.
These experiences have given me a deep appreciation of the pressures, expectations and vulnerabilities that can arise during education, personal development and times of change. I understand how difficult it can be to balance other people’s expectations with your own needs, feelings and sense of identity.
My Therapeutic Approach
I work integratively, drawing on a range of therapeutic perspectives while keeping the Person-Centred relationship at the heart of my practice. I believe that feeling heard, respected and accepted is central to counselling.
Our work together is collaborative and shaped around your individual needs, experiences and circumstances. My role is not to tell you who you should be or what decisions you should make, but to help you explore your experiences, develop greater self-understanding and recognise your own strengths and vulnerabilities.
I work with clients experiencing anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, confidence difficulties, identity concerns, self-doubt, perfectionism, educational pressures and significant life transitions.
I also work with people who have experienced childhood trauma, sexual abuse and bereavement. I recognise that painful experiences and loss can affect our sense of self, our relationships, our ability to trust and our emotional wellbeing. I aim to offer a sensitive and respectful space in which these experiences can be explored at a pace that feels manageable for you. You remain in control of what you choose to share.
Performing Arts, Creativity and Self-Belief
Alongside my experience in education and mentoring, I have a background in performing arts. This gives me a particular understanding of the emotional journey involved in developing as an artist and the pressures that can accompany creative and performance-based careers.
Behind the desire to perform or create can be feelings of vulnerability, comparison, perfectionism and the fear of not being good enough. These experiences can affect confidence, self-esteem and our sense of identity.
I offer a space in which these feelings can be explored, helping you understand the relationship between your creative identity and your wider sense of self.
Where appropriate, we may also explore creative approaches such as artwork and journaling. These are entirely optional and are offered only if you feel comfortable, with your needs, readiness and consent guiding our work.
Moving Forward
I believe that counselling is an opportunity to pause, reflect and begin to understand ourselves with greater compassion. It can help us make sense of our experiences, recognise patterns, explore difficult feelings and consider new ways of moving forward.
My hope is to support you in developing greater self-awareness, resilience and self-belief, and in finding the confidence and courage to embrace who you are.
You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to counselling. Sometimes the first step is simply having a space where you can begin to explore your story, at your own pace and in your own way.
